Police say South Laurel shooting likely connected to illegal gambling

An Ellicott City man was found shot in South Laurel late Tuesday night in connection with what police are calling an illegal gambling operation.

Around 11:45 p.m. Nov. 20, Prince George's County Police arrived in the 11600 block of South Laurel Drive and found the man, later identified as James Thomas Cornell, 43, of the 8300 block of Montgomery Run Road. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said that it is likely that the illegal gambling operation was targeted.
