Forrest hit Carson Marshall at the 11:22 mark, and after Ashwood hit Ceribelli for Hereford’s eighth and final goal, the Gladiators went on a run.
Tyler Wasson, Kevin Coppinger and Cheswick all fired for scores, pulling Glenelg within one goal at the 1:39 mark of the final quarter.
“We fought back. We, athletically, could run with them, and I thought we did,” Hatmaker added.
The Gladiators got possession back with 50 seconds to go, but the final shot went for naught, and Hereford’s defense ultimately held on.
Referring to the fourth quarter as a “war to the end,” King said his team was ready to put those final minutes behind them in preparation for next week’s championship contest against Kent Island.
“We are very fortunate to be moving on, and we’re exited to be playing in the state championship,” he said. “Get us there, and let’s see where the chips fall. I have a great group of kids and I’m looking forward to coaching them one more time.”
