The Centennial volleyball team assembled to honor one of its fallen alumna last week in the most appropriate way: with a volleyball tournament.

The first annual Centennial Alumni Volleyball Tournament was held last weekend at the Ellicott City high school. The event was a fundraiser for Catholic Charities in memory of Leanna Kelly ('04), who died tragically in a helicopter accident in Pennsylvania last year with her father, Bernard, and three others.

Leanna's twin sister, Olivia, was one of around 30 former Eagles to attend the tournament. Former coaches Larry Schofield and Rob Moy were also on hand.

"It was a great event and we had about 30 alums come back, graduating years ranging from 2001-2013," said Jenn Feldmann ('05), who helped organize the tournament. "We are still in the process of determining exactly how much money we raised for Catholic Charities as some people are still buying items, but needless to say, the event was successful and Leanna Kelly was remembered."

Kristina Swan ('07), Trisha Mockapetris ('13 Howard County Player of the Year), Kate Feldmann ('03), Julia Brostrom ('07), Josie Strycharz ('05), Alana Eller ('05), Erika Swan ('04) comprised the winning team, and accounted for 10 Maryland high school state titles.

Organizers plan to hold the tournament every year the weekend after Memorial Day.
