Howard schools cancel after-school activities Tuesday

With freezing rain in the forecast, the Howard County Public School System has canceled all after-school activities Tuesday.

Cancellations include all school- and community-sponsored events and high school sports practices and games. This is the second day in a row the school system canceled afternoon and evening activities because of weather.

All childcare programs offered by the Columbia Association in Howard schools will go on as scheduled.

The Department of Recreation and Parks announced on Twitter that its after-school activities would be canceled as well.

The Board of Education was supposed to hold its first work session on Superintendent Renee Foose's proposed $742 million operating budget request for fiscal year 2015 Tuesday at 7 p.m., but that too was canceled. The first budget work session will instead be held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m., taking the place of the originally scheduled second work session. The second work session will be rescheduled.
