The University of Maryland, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) hosts its open house (rain or shine) on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Maryland Research and Education Center – Clarksville facility, at 4240 Folly Quarter Road in Ellicott City. Admission is free, as well as the activities, including a wagon ride and pumpkin give-aways.
Learn about AGNR programs such as wood energy, hops and crops, food preservation, 4-H opportunities for youth, healthy living, climate resiliency, composting and the Terp farm. From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., workshops on these topics (and more) will run every 15 to 20 minutes.

The anniversary party includes a concert by the music department, fun pictures and memorabilia from the past 20 years and food trucks where attendees can purchase dinner and dessert items.
In honor of National Fire Prevention month, the Howard County Fire Department will host events this month in various locations throughout the county including the Ellicott City, Savage, Clarksville and Elkridge fire departments. On Saturday, Oct. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department welcomes the community to its open house. The station is at 4150 Montgomery Road.
The choirs from Glen Mar, Glenelg, Linden-Linthicum and Mt. Zion United Methodist churches unite in harmony to support the American Cancer Society on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. at Glen Mar United Methodist Church, 4701 New Cut Road in Ellicott City.
The benefit concert features vocal and instrumental soloists and groups. Admission is free, however, a free-will offering will be taken for donations to the American Cancer Society.
