Chapelgate softball stays atop IAAM B Conference with win over St. Paul's

Almost halfway through its regular season schedule, Chapelgate finds itself in the pole position.

The Yellowjackets, one year removed from finishing under .500 in conference play, improved to 5-0 in the IAAM B Conference (8-1 overall) on Wednesday afternoon with a 13-8 victory over St. Paul’s.

Sophomore Bethanne Venkatesan came on in relief to pitch 4.1 innings and strike out 10 batters for Chapelgate in the win. She also delivered a pair of doubles at the plate to help lead the offense.

Fellow Yellowjacket sophomore Phoebe Cleaver got the start on the bump and allowed just two runs in her 2.2 innings. Lydia Martin also chipped in offensively with a double.

On the season, Chapelgate’s bats have done a lot of the heavy lifting.

Five players currently have an on base percentage of .595 or higher, with Clara Sevy leading the team with 27 RBI. Venkatesan has driven in 21 batters of her own and she has combined with Sevy for five home runs.
