Economic Development Authority needs citizen voices [Letter]

The Howard County Citizens Association (HCCA) Board of Directors fully agrees and supports the referendum effort that is pivotal in being placed on the ballot in November.

One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to see the injustice that has occurred from the reneging of the Board of Elections after the required numbers of signatures were easily surpassed and Mr. Erskine's tactics. Whatever happened to Howard County's favorite logo, "choose civility?"

We hope the County Council will not reappoint Mr. Erskine to the Economic Development Authority (EDA) Board of Directors, not because of his act regarding the bullying of canvassers, but because as HCCA testified to the County Council, there is a presumption of a conflict of interest whenever a land-use attorney having clients in Howard County is serving on the EDA.

Because there are no minutes posted, the citizens have no way of knowing the internal workings of the EDA. HCCA recommends that two individuals sit on the EDA board who are members of a civic ssociation. Justice needs to prevail now and in the future.

Stu Kohn

HCCA President
