Letter: Ellicott City parking sensors are dangerous innovation

I read in your Oct. 25 edition that sensors are being installed in Main Street in Ellicott City to help motorists find empty parking spaces ("High-tech project spells end to some free parking").

Utilizing this system will require the motorist to download an application to a smart phone thereby requiring said motorist to access and use the smart phone while driving. This seems to be contrary to Maryland's laws regarding the use of a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle.

Given Main Street's narrow and winding nature, as well as pedestrian shoppers and tourists, motorists do not need the additional distraction of looking at a cell phone to find a parking space and then race each other to get to it.
