Mt. Hebron field hockey stays unbeaten

Mt. Hebron remains undefeated with an 8-1 victory over Oakland Mills on Friday. Ally Unkenholz had three of the Vikings’ goals.

Tianna Wallpher and Shannon Kelliher each had two assists.

Jordan Kerr (goal) and Christina Weston (assist) accounted for Oakland Mills scoring.

Although Mt. Hebron is 4-0 in county play, there are six teams — Atholton, Centennial, Glenelg, Long Reach, Marriotts Ridge and River Hill — right behind at 3-1.

Next week’s key games are: Glenelg at Atholton (Monday), Marriotts Ridge at River Hill (Thursday), Centennial at Long Reach (Friday) and Mt. Hebron at Glenelg (Friday).

Lauren Smith scored an unassisted goal with five minutes left in the game and freshman Alyssa Arnold scored two minutes later, but Glenelg Country fell to Maryvale, 4-2, in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference game.

The Glenelg Country defense, led by Megan Hooper (two defensive saves) and goalie Kelly Johnson (33 saves), fought hard against Maryvale’s relentesss attack.

The Dragons return to conference play with a home game against Mercy on Sept. 25.
