In a contest between neighbors, Mt. Hebron defeated Marriotts Ridge, 1-0, Monday afternoon to remain undefeated. The loss was the first of the season for the Mustangs.

As might be expected, the game went back and forth and was scoreless at halftime.

Tianna Wallpher scored the winning goal with about 10 minutes left in the game. Natalie Fyock provided the assist.

“We definitely had our opportunities and we couldn’t finish,” said Marriotts Ridge coach Stacie Gado. “Once again our defense is holding us up.”

Mt. Hebron faces Long Reach, another undefeated team, Sept. 17 at Long Reach.

Long Reach 7, Wilde Lake 3

Jess Bates had three goals and Sadie McClelland, Cloe Dixon and Lillie Miller had one each as Long Reach defeated Wilde Lake to remain unbeaten in county play.

Eileen Mee got Wilde Lake’s scoring started. Brittany Kuntz had a goal and two assists. Lauren Comeaux had the other Wildecat goal.

“It was a great offensive game on both teams’ part,” said Wilde Lake coach Samantha McElvaney. “Long Reach capitalized by pressuring the defensive 16-yard restarts.”

“Wilde Lake kept us on our toes,” said Long Reach coach Rashmi Bhanot. “Our attack and midfield did a great job of keeping us in the game.”

The Lightning midfield was led by Lillie Miller. Other key players were McClelland and Patricia Anderson.

Wilde Lake’s Shaelyn Cavanaugh had a great defensive save in the game.
