Ellicott City's Jacobson making name for himself on the ski slopes

Spring might be right around the corner, but Mt. Hebron junior Aaron Jacobson is certainly taking advantage of these last couple weeks of cold weather.

As a member of the Liberty Mountain Ski Race Team, Jacobson traveled to Elk Mountain in Pennsylvania last weekend for the PA Cup Finals. And, participating in the U18/U21 division, he delivered a performance to remember by earning a sixth place overall finish.

Courtesy of that top 10 showing, Jacobson was named to the Men’s State Team. Making the team means he’s now invited to attend the USSA Eastern U18/U21 Finals at Okemo Mountain March 9-12 in Vermont.

The Liberty Mountain Race Team, which features 60 members between the ages of 7-18 this season, races in the Central division of the PA Racing Assoication. The division also includes Roundtop, Whitetail, Tussey and Sawmill, while PARA itself features four divisions from all over the state of Pennsylvania.

Maryland’s lone ski resort, Wisp, is also a member.

Jacobson has been ski racing for the LMRT since he was 9 years old, training multiple days a week on the mountain from December thru April. In the offseason, his training shifts to include rollerblading and attending ski-racing camps.

Jacobson’s brother, Adam (an eighth grader at Ellicott Mills Middle School), is also a skier. He will be traveling to Roundtop Mountain this weekend (March 1-3) for the U12/I14 PA State Championships, where he will try and follow in his older brother’s footsteps.
