Traonna Thomas followed up her 24-point performance in the Scorpions’ 2A South first round win last week with 18 points, 14 rebounds and six steals in Oakland Mill’s double overtime victory over the Lightning on Monday.
Lauren Thompson added 12 points and Tori Diggs had 11 for Oakland Mills, who broke a 39-39 tie in double overtime with a 3-pointer from Thomas and a three-point play by Thompson.
Imani Sanders had a team-high 12 points, while Gillian Engelbrecht and Alana Ratliffe each finished with eight points.
“They just aren’t ready to let the season go,” Scorpions coach Seth Willingham said. “We didn’t play great for 36 minutes but found a way to pull it out. That’s a sign of a good team.”
Oakland Mills advances to the regional semifinals on Wednesday when they will travel to two-time defending state champion and top-seeded Calvert.

The top-seeded Hawks had little trouble with the visiting Panthers of Anne Arundel County.
Junior Jenna Collins finished with 18 points and six rebounds, while seniors Vicki Rowe and Megan Sterling added 16 and 11 respectively.
Reservoir, the region’s No. 4 seed, will travel to No. 1 River Hill on Wednesday in the semifinal round.
