This fall marked the end of an era in a lot of ways for Howard County girls golf, as it was the final go-around for a group of seniors that has transformed the landscape of the sport over the course of the last four years.
Atholton’s Bryana Nguyen wrapped up a stellar high school career with her second straight state title, while Marriotts Ridge’s Rachel Lee joined her in the top three at states. Nguyen added a District championship to her expansive resume, while Lee captured the county championship.
Other seniors who closed with strong seasons were Oakland Mills’ Samyra Lewis, Atholton’s Avni Johnson and the Marriotts Ridge duo of Marissa Davey and Ariel Biegel.
The good news is, though, that there are still some exciting young players in place to carry the torch for years to come. Marriotts Ridge freshman Lauren Kim leads that group, having burst onto the scene to finish in the top three at counties and districts before wrapping things up with a top-five finish at states.
