Howard County girls basketball season recap

This year's Howard County girls basketball county title race was as competitive as ever, as a multitude of teams had a shot of breaking through down the stretch.

In the end, Howard won its first league championship in the modern era with a 17-2 record against its county foes. Led by Sydney Biniak, Anne Kinsey and Jayda Gilmore, the Lions overcame the adversity of a two-game losing skid to finish strong.

Close behind was Centennial (16-3), Mt. Hebron (15-4), Reservoir (14-5) and Atholton (13-6), all of which kept the Lions honest throughout the season.

In the playoffs, the Raiders were the lone Howard County squad that earned a bid to a regional title game – where they fell to Poly.

Reservoir's Zelor Massaquoi (20.9 points per game), and River Hill's Jenna Collins (16.4), both scored their 1,000th career points as well.

Though no schools represented the county in the state semifinals, a plethora of underclassman talent peppered the league this season, ensuring that there is much to decide when it comes to picking next year's favorite.
