Atholton’s hopes of defeating Glenelg fell apart in the second half of Monday’s contest. While Atholton led, 5-3, at the half, the Raiders found the net only once after that and ended up losing, 9-6.

Getting draw control and scoring six unanswered goals helped swing the game in Glenelg’s favor.

Atholton coach Crystal Shelley said she wishes she knew what happened to her team n the second half. “I certainly think that the card changed the game,” she added.

With her team up, 5-4, and on offense the officials made a call against the Raiders.

When an Atholton assistant expressed his opinion, the official issued a yellow card to Shelley. “ ‘Ridiculous’ was the key word that got it,” she said.

As a result of the card, Atholton had to pull a player from the field for two minutes.

Glenelg quickly tied the score and took control of the game.

“We were able to make the right adjustments,” said Glenelg coach Ginger Kincaid.

Glenelg is now 5-2 in county play; Atholton is 4-4.
