Mt. Hebron had its game plan in mind.

“Annapolis has some really good players who can dodge pull left and right, spin and keep the ball on their sticks,” said Mt. Hebron coach Jeannette Ireland. “So we knew we had to start off really fast.”

The Vikings scored on their first three goals off corners and would have held Annapolis scoreless in the first half, except the Panthers scored on a corner with no time on the clock.

Tianna Wallpher scored Mt. Hebron’s only goal in the second half and the Vikings  dug their heels in on defense after Annapolis scored on another corner to make the score, 4-2.

“They are a very good corner team,” Ireland said. “It was just a matter of keeping the ball out of our circle.”

Wallpher was all over the field.

“She was dodging, feeding and going one-on-one. She just lifts the entire team with her play,” Ireland said.

Monica Linn and Shannon Kelliher made themselves a presence in midfield and on defense, respectively.

Five of Mt. Hebron goalie Chachi Kelehan’s six saves came in the second half.

“That’s how much Annapolis turned up the pressure,” Ireland said.

Both Panthers’ goals came from Ceara O’Donnell assisted by Haley Bowcutt.

“It was a good game to watch and a nerve-wracking game to coach,’’ Ireland said.

The Vikings’ advanced to the state championship game in 2011, but lost in double overtime to Westminster, the team they defeated Monday in the sectional final.
