The Golden Bears built an early lead, scoring a combined six runs in the first two innings, and rode that advantage the rest of the way to the six-inning victory over the Lightning.

Caroline Goyne had a 2-RBI single and Amber Ginsburg had a 2-RBI double in Hammond’s four-run first inning. Jill Purdy and Katelynn Spingola each delivered RBI hits in the second to create the 6-0 lead.

By game’s end, Emily and Samantha Speierman had each put together three-hit days, putting up identical lines of two singles and a double. Purdy went 3-4, Spingola, Keyuana Griffin and Ginsburg (3-3) all had doubles. Samantha Speierman pitched four innings and had nine strikeouts, while Emily Speierman had five strikeouts in two innings.

Long Reach’s offense was led by Cloe Dixon (single, double, two runs), Isa Carunungan (two doubles), Alina Milauskas (single, double) and Abby Bakunas (two walks, two stolen bases and run scored).

After each team scored one run in the first inning, it was all Gladiators the rest of the way. There were 14 hits and big offensive efforts all around for Glenelg.

Leah Allen went 3-4 with a three-run home run, five RBI and two runs scored. Grace Daigle (2-3, 3 runs, RBI, stolen base) and Faith Kujawa (2-2, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases) were other stars.

Mandy Bendix pitched and allowed three hits, struck out three and walked only one.

Wilde Lake got its run in the first inning when sophomore Hailey Setley singled up the middle and came around to score on a double off the bat of senior Kourtney Harrison. Alexis Turiczek produced the Wildecats’ other hit on the afternoon.
