Howard 7, Atholton 0

The Lions played one of their best all-around games of the season, earning a shutout victory over the Raiders. It was Atholton’s third straight loss.

Kayli Paugh threw a two-hitter in the pitching circle and blasted a three-run home run at the plate to lead the charge for Howard. Courtney Merson added a solo home run and Katie Wilkinson had a two-run double.

“We came out today and set the tone pretty early, with Courtney hitting a monster home run over the fence in the third inning,” Howard coach Chuck Rice said. “Then we blew it open in the fifth inning when Kayli crushed that three-run home run – it probably went almost 250 feet.”

That cushion was more than enough for Paugh, who finished with nine strikeouts.
