An Ellicott City prosecutor working in the Major Investigations Unit of the Baltimore City’s State’s Attorney’s office filed to run for Howard County State’s Attorney.
Rich Gibson, 37, a Democrat, has filed to run against incumbent Dario Broccolino, who has served as State’s Attorney since December 2007. Broccolino, also a Democrat, has filed for re-election.
According to a news release, Gibson has 10 years of experience and will take “a specific emphasis on community outreach, property crimes, juvenile delinquency, gangs and domestic violence.”
Gibson is scheduled to make a formal announcement Thursday at 4 p.m. at 6080 Foreland Garth in Columbia.
As of Tuesday, at 7 p.m., Gibson and Broccolino are the lone candidates in the race. The deadline for filing is 9 p.m.
