Ellicott City's historic district is celebrating its 35th annual Midnight Madness and Santa this weekend.

The festivities kick off on Main Street Friday, Dec. 7, where from 4-8 p.m., children can visit Santa in his workshop at Thomas Isaac Log Cabin.

At 6 p.m., County Councilwoman Courtney Watson, an Ellicott City Democrat, will lead Main Street in the holiday tree-lighting in front of the welcome center.

On Friday, Dec. 7, stores and restaurants will be open until midnight with special promotions. The event will also feature live music, including a performance from the Mt. Hebron High School Madrigals, the Pride of Baltimore Chorus, the Heart of Maryland Barbershop Chorus and the Churches of Ellicott City Choir.

During Midnight Madness, a shuttle service will run between the parking lots at the Howard County Government Complex, the Howard County Courthouse and Main Street.

The next day is Santa Saturday, with a parade down Main Street scheduled to being at noon, and ending at the historic Fire House Museum, where children can visit Santa until 5 p.m.

Midnight Madness is sponsored by the Ellicott City Business Association, and Santa Saturday is sponsored by the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks.

The events will be held regardless of weather.
