Major delays expected Sunday on Route 108 during Iron Girl triathlon

Motorists should expect major delays Sunday morning on Md. Route 108 and nearby roads due to the Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon, Howard County officials said.

Route 108 will be closed to cars traveling west between Ten Mills Road and Centennial Lane fron 7 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. Southbound Centennial Lane between the Centennial Park entrance and Md. 108 will also be closed during this time.

On other stretches of road, cars will be sharing space with more than 2,000 triathlon bicyclists, who will have the right of way. Police officers will be stationed along the road to help direct traffic.

In addition to Route 108 and Centennial Lane, delays are anticipated on Homewood Road, Folly Quarter Road, Carroll Mill Road, Triadelphia Road and Frederick Road.

Officials urged motorists to use caution when sharing the road with bicyclists.
