Are parking meters to blame for businesses leaving Main Street? [Letter]

I read the Jan. 2 "New businesses are coming to Historic Ellicott City" describing how long-standing business are leaving. The businesses: I Love Theater, Taylor's Antique Mall, Subway and Mumbles and Squeaks closed.

Last year saw an improvement in the general economy. Could parking meters, which sure don't contribute to the shopping experience in downtown Ellicott City, while destroying some of the down-home atmosphere, be a culprit?
