Here's another thing to check off the holiday wishlist: free parking in Historic Ellicott City. Shoppers coming to Ellicott City this holiday season will be able to park for free in all of the historic district's lots from Friday, Nov. 29 through Jan. 1, 2014, County Executive Ken Ulman announced Wednesday.
That makes parking lots B, C and E -- which are normally metered -- free. Lot A, D and F are unmetered year-round.
Metered parking fees along Main Street and Maryland Avenue will remain in effect, as will the two-hour limit for parking on Main Street.
"We hope to encourage shoppers to 'think locally' this holiday season," Ulman said in a statement. "We are making it easier for visitors and better for merchants."
Andy Hall, president of the Ellicott City Historic District Partnership, applauded the decision.
"The overwhelming and continuing support that County Executive Ulman and his adminstration has given the historic district is very much appreciated," he said. "Their decision to once again make parking free is great news; free parking impacts historic Ellicott City's local merchants, businesses and the patrons that support them."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
