Man pleads guilty to attempted murder of father in Ellicott City

A 28-year-old College Park man pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of his father inside his Ellicott City home in Howard County Circuit Court on Tuesday, according to State's attorney spokesman Wayne Kirwan.

According to Kirwan, on Sept. 8, Clement Yien-Yi Chiu stabbed his father in the neck after he confronted his son about using his credit cards without permission.

Kirwan said the father managed to escape further harm by climbing into his vehicle and driving away.

Chiu's sentencing is set for June 20, Kirwan said, at which the prosecution will seek a prison sentence of 10 years.
