As part of a training exercise, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services held a controlled demolition burn of buildings in Ellicott City Tuesday morning.

The burn, which began in the morning and lasted into the afternoon, created a lot of smoke in the area.

The HCDFRS notified residents who might see smoke to keep in mind that it was a controlled event with firefighters present.

Another technical training exercise for the special operations team to practice high-angle rope rescues will be conducted beneath the bridge that carries Interstate 70 between Howard and Baltimore counties on Wednesday, bringing more than a dozen personnel to the span and shutting one lane to traffic.
