The Howard County Police Department is holding a series of Collision Avoidance Training classes for licensed teenage drivers ages 16-20 years old.

The two-day, 12-hour program is to provide young drivers with a better understanding of vehicle dynamics. Four hours of classroom instruction is devoted to learning about how and why a vehicle responds a certain way in collisions. An eight-hour session of behind-the-wheel training follows the next day. Driving skills addressed during the training include evasive maneuvers, threshold/emergency braking, forward serpentine, cornering, backing, reverse serpentine and skid and off-road recovery.

Remaining sessions are Oct. 18-19, Nov. 15-16 and Dec. 6-7.

The training costs $95 for the two-day session.
