O'Malley names Broccolino to medical marijuana commission

Howard County State's Attorney Dario Broccolino has been named by Governor Martin O'Malley to a medical marijuana commission, according to a news release.

According to the release, Broccolino, who has served as the State's Attorney since 2008, is one of 11 named to the commission, which "has the authority to permit academic research centers to design and implement programs that make marijuana available for medical purposes to defined groups of patients."

In July 2011, Broccolino was appointed to the Medical Marijuana Program Workgroup created to develop legislative recommendations for the 2012 session.

The commission was created following the passage of legislation in the Maryland General Assembly in 2013. The commission's first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene located at 201 W. Preston Street in Baltimore.
