The Howard County Scholastic Hockey Association (HCSHA) was busy over the last few days, as many of the county’s teams hit the ice throughout the week. Check below to the past week's results:
Howard 7, Mt. Hebron 5
On Dec. 3, Howard High School took on Mt. Hebron in what would prove to be a swap of goals for much of the contest. At the end of the first period, the score was tied 1-1. Anders Nillson scored an unassisted goal for Hebron, and Erik Davis (assisted by Justin Overstret and Phillip LoPresto) scored on a power play for the Lions. Four additional goals were put on the board in the second period, leaving the score tied once again at 3-3. Joseph Petti (unassisted) and David Cranston (assisted by Nillson) scored for the Vikings.
Doug Noonan (assisted by Davis) and Erik Davis (assisted by David Boudjeda) scored for the Lions. Six goals were scored in an exciting third period. Howard came on strong, scoring three in just under 90 seconds. The first was a power play goal from Overstreet (assisted by M. Taylor). Boudjeda (assisted by J. Goldberg) and Anthony Poisal (assisted by Overstreet and P. Roy) added the other two for Howard.
Mt. Hebron came back with an unassisted goal by Petti. However, Howard answered right back with a LoPresso goal (assisted by Overstreet and Davis). James Burke put the last goal in the net for Howard High. Brian Spiegler, the goalie for Mt. Hebron, stopped 22 shots. Howard’s net-minder, Alex Oslund, stopped 24 shots.
Atholton 10, WHO 2 (Wilde Lake, Hammond, Oakland Mills)
The Raiders displayed the full strength of their bench with 10 different players each recording a goal. WHO goals came in the third period by Michael Amick and Ryan Allison, both unassisted. Atholton goalie, Kyle Brinker, stopped nine shots and Jack Monk stopped five. WHO goalie, Alexa Kanakry, collected 33 saves, and Lizzie Yu had 16.
Reservoir 5, Centennial 2
It was a hard-fought battle between Centennial and Reservoir. The scoreboard remained unlit for much of the first period, until Shannon Roarty (assisted by Stefan Novacic) scored her first goal as a Gator. Luke Roarity scored both goals in the second period (assisted by Chris Moon) to pull Reservoir ahead.
With 22 seconds left in the second period, Centennial proved that it wouldn’t go down without a fight, and Calvin Blevins put one through the pipes (assisted by Dan Pomeranz). With the third period just underway, Chris Moon scored a goal (assisted by Trent Teodori). Novacic then took a shot through traffic in front of the net and scored. The Eagles’ Andrew Pelletier (unassisted) put one more in the net with just 20 seconds on the clock.
Reservoir goalie Kris Westland stopped 11 shots from Centennial. Scott Yablon, the netminder for the Eagles, was almost unstoppable, stopping 43 shots from the Gators.
Marriotts Ridge 7, Glenelg 2
In a game that saw Marriotts Ridge’s Jack Watson record a hat trick, the Mustangs got off to an early start. Watson (assisted by E. Winik, then G. Scarpaci and C. Coster) scored twice, while Brandon Voigt (assisted by J. Grote and C. Jones) added a third goal in the first period alone. The Gladiators’ Johnny Lyons put a power play goal on the board (assisted by K. Hudson) halfway through the second.
Marriotts Ridge returned the favor with a power play goal from Christopher Jones (assisted by J. Watson). The third period added three more scores for Marriotts Ridge with Ryan Condron (assisted by M. Costigan), Jordan Smith (unassisted) and Watson (assisted by E. Winik) all recording goals. In an exciting penalty shot, Glenelg’s Jun Park put one past goalie Brandon Barrett for the final goal of the game.
Glenelg’s netminder, Chris Dillon, kept busy stopping 29 shots from Marriotts Ridge. Mustangs’ keeper Brandon Barrett stopped 16 shots.
River Hill 10, Long Reach 1
The first and second periods of River Hill’s lopsided match against saw the Hawks put together a 9-0 lead. The Lightning wouldn’t let the score get them down and continued to hustle. Then, AJ Gilbert (unassisted) finally got his squad on the board in the middle of the third period. Still, the lead proved to be too much. River Hill added one final score with just twoo seconds left on the clock. The Hawks’ goalie, Will Barrett, stopped seven shots. Long Reach netminder, Zach Miller, was busy stopping 21 shots.
Atholton JV 5, Winston Churchill 2
In a JV contest, the Atholton Raiders (2-2) defeated the Winston Churchill Bulldogs (0-2) in an evenly matched game. The Bulldogs' worked hard against a stubborn Atholton defense to earn their goals. In contrast, AJ Zeller (2), Matt Barila (2) and Max Bryant scored for the Raiders in the win.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
