The game was back and forth the entire way, with Hammond striking first with a run in the opening inning when Katelynn Spingola stole home on a passed ball. Marriotts Ridge answered back in the third when Lindsey Kellner led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a single by Danielle Lein.
Hammond got its second run in the fifth on an RBI single by Spingola, while Marriotts Ridge tied things up again in the sixth on a RBI single by Katie O’Boyle.
Marriotts Ridge actually loaded the bases in its half of the eighth, but a pop out to short and a leaping catch at second base by Spingola spoiled the scoring opportunity.
Samantha Speierman got the win on the pitching rubber, striking out 12 batters in her eight innings of work. Katie Smith also pitched well for the Mustangs, striking out six in the complete-game effort.
