Fall is a beautiful season, and a wonderful way to celebrate is at Fall Fest, on Saturday, Oct. 19, 4-8 p.m., hosted by Grace Episcopal Church, 6720 Montgomery Road, in Elkridge.
This is fun for the whole family, and it also sounds like a great way to spend the evening with a few friends along for the fun.
The festival schedule of events includes pumpkin roll races, a costume parade, trick or treating, donuts on a string game, and, of course, in the true spirit of the fall festival, a bonfire (weather permitting, of course).
There will be fall crafts to make and take, face painting and hayrides, too. Food will be available for purchase at the Flippin' Pizza food truck and CookieRide. Sounds like great fun for the kid in all of us… and less messy than jumping in piles of leaves!
Howard High School took home the Together We Can Make a Difference school participation award by having 53 of the 193 registered runners in this year's Elkridge Food Pantry Give Where You Live 5K race.
Many of the runners were members of the Lions' Cross Country Team and their families. This fun participation contest was set up between the local feeder schools, and the Howard High students received a $500 prize put up by race organizer CrossLife Community Church.
These student athletes graciously chose to donate their winnings back to the food pantry. Kudos to these fine young people, and a special shout out to Coach Nathan Ferrell for encouraging his athletes to participate.
John Mackall, of CrossLife, event coordinator, would like to thank everyone involved in making this year's event a success, which, at this writing, has raised over $4,000 to help our local neighbors most in need.
If you love bingo, purses and jewelry, then look no further than the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department! The EVFD Auxiliary will host a Purse Bingo (featuring Vera Bradley, Coach and Pandora brands) at the firehall, 6275 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, on Sunday, Oct. 13.
The doors and kitchen open at 12:30 p.m.; the games begin at 2 p.m. Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Seating is limited, and children are welcome when paying admission.
Highlights of the afternoon include door prizes, 20 regular program games, two jackpots, two raffles and King Tut pull tabs, offering a chance to win up to $500 in prizes. For more information, call 410-761-6633, ext. 7, or contact email@example.com by email.
A reminder that the Howard High Lions Pride Athletic Boosters will kick off a new tradition with this year's homecoming game against the Centennial Eagles, Friday, Oct. 18. Take a break from the kitchen Thursday, Oct. 17, 5:30-8:30 p.m., for the first Fall Spirit Italian Dinner in the school cafeteria. A variety of pasta dishes, salad, bread and dessert will be available and tickets are only $8 per person.
The dinner is a benefit for the booster club, which supports student athletes, so come out and support a good cause. Lions Pride parent volunteers are also asking everyone to bring a nonperishable food item to the dinner for the Elkridge Food Pantry.
