Long Reach High musicians wow Disney World [Elkridge]

One hundred and three students from Long Reach High School were invited to Disney World to share their musical talents and enjoy the theme parks, as Laurie Lerman reports:

"The Long Reach High School Band, Orchestra and Choir were invited to Disney World April 9-13 to perform in both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom. Under the direction of William String, the fabulous band marched down Main Street playing the Mickey Mouse Theme Song, "It's a Small World" and "Zippity Doo Dah."

"They were accompanied by the color guard, directed by Leigh String. The streets were lined with many guests, cheering the kids on and enjoying the music.

"In addition to the parade, the band attended a clinic with Disney musicians. The culmination of that session was a DVD of a scene from "The Lion King" with the LRHS Band's music accompanying the scene. What an amazing experience that was!

"The orchestra, under the direction of Christoffer Fyhr, played in Medley Gardens in Epcot. Some of the songs that they so beautifully played before an appreciative audience were Jupiter, Finlandia and Grand March from Tannhauser.

The choir, under the direction of June Pompei, also performed in Medley Gardens in Epcot. They were accompanied on piano by Alexandra Fyhr. Their selections included "Banks of Doon," "Blow, Blow" and "I See the Light." Their melodic voices were enjoyed by the many people in the audience.

A big thank you to Rick Robb, one of the Assistant Principals, and all the chaperones who accompanied these wonderful kids on the trip. It was a trip filled with many magical moments!"
