As of 2012, 230 families in Howard County are homeless. More than 20 include children. The Route One Day Center is an organization that serves the homeless of Howard County by providing meals, basic preventative medical care, crisis intervention, and counseling to more than 200 people every month.
On May 3, the Route One Day Center, together with many other corporate and government partners, will sponsor the third annual Hope for the Homeless 5K run at Rockburn Park.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Route One Day Center, and we are seeking individual and corporate sponsors who would like to help us with the costs involved in putting on this event. If you would like to sponsor, call 410-549-7156.
Runners and walkers who wish to participate need to register. Registration is $35 and begins at 8 a.m. Pre-registration and individual sponsorship forms are also online at http://www.hopeforhomeless5k.com.
You can also find more information and a list of the awards that will be presented for finishers and groups of participants that reach a specific level of sponsorship.
The Route One Day Resource Center, at 8826 Washington Blvd., Jessup, is a place of refuge where the homeless in the Elkridge community can have a hot meal, a shower, get clothing, outdoor survival gear, receive their mail and have access to limited medical care.
They can get assistance with identification documents and referrals to community services, as well as assistance applying for state benefits. Supported by Grassroots, most services are provided by volunteers.
Please join the community in this opportunity to help increase the quality of life for our most disadvantaged members.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
