It's another rainy day in Elkridge as I write this; and, my brother, Adam Lippa, says that the "May flowers are going to come up with swimmies on."
Perhaps he's right; but, with all this water falling around, I am reminded of how lucky we are to live in a unique ecosystem like the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, which is fed by the beautiful Patapsco River that flows through our town.
With that in mind, it's time to celebrate our lively waterways and the Friends of the Patapsco Valley and Heritage Greenway is having a party/exhibit to get families out into our green spaces to learn and enjoy. You can join them on Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., in pavilions 105 and 106 for fun in the, hopefully, sun.
If you're crafty and books are more your thing, bring your 2- to 5-year-olds to the Elkridge Branch Library for Storybook Friends, featuring Curious George, on April 25, at 10:15 and 11:15 am. Tickets are required and they may be acquired at the information desk 15 minutes before the program starts.
For the very young ones aged infant through 23 months, come enjoy stories, baby games and musical activities during the half hour Play Partners program on April 26, also offered by the staff at the Elkridge Branch Library.
Fun lovers ages 5 and up can come to the Elkridge Library on April 26 at 2 p.m. for Book Bingo. Play the game themed around your favorite characters for a chance to win a book! Registration is required so be sure to contact the staff of the library at 410-313-5085 or use the online tool at host.evanced.info/hclibrary/lib/eventsignup.asp? to reserve your space.
Finally, spring means summer is coming, and that means summer reading book clubs and activities at the library. However, the programs can't run without a battery of dedicated volunteers to help guide library patrons to the fun. If you're interested in volunteering, make sure you get to the meeting on April 26 at 4 p.m. at the Elkridge Branch Library.
Volunteers should be aged 13-17 and will need to fill out an application to participate. The application can be found at http://www.hclibrary.org/index.php?page=159 and will be used to confirm your registration for the orientation. Registration is required. Call 410-313-5088 for more information.
As always, I welcome the opportunity to help you celebrate your achievements and promote your events. Please let me know your news at firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-274-0563 so I can get the word out to the readers.
