The season of Lent arrived a bit earlier than usual this year. In its annual tradition, the kind folks at Melville United Methodist Church are inviting everyone in the community to a pancake supper on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 5-7 p.m., in the parish hall, 5660 Furnace Ave., Elkridge.
Feast on pancakes and local sausage from Boarman's Market, served with fruit, coffee, juice, soda, and milk. Dinner is offered at no charge to guests; however, free will donations are accepted and appreciated.
If you have questions, call the parish office at 410-796-0959.
Calling all runners and walkers! The Rocky on the Run 5k Run/Walk, will be held Saturday, March 23, to benefit the Rockburn Elementary School PTA and support student-focused school programs that promote caring, kindness, and good citizenship.
This run/walk will take participants through the beautiful neighborhood of Lyndwood, located near Timbers at Troy golf course. While the event is certified for race enthusiasts, it is just as fun for families and friends to enjoy the outdoors and experience a community fund-aising event. Safety marshals will be stationed along the course and there will be a water station at the halfway point.
Race packets can be picked up Thursday, March 21, 6-8 p.m., at Road Runner, 6630C Marie Curie Drive, Elkridge.
Please note inline skates, bikes, and pets are not allowed; strollers are welcome. Pre-race activities include a warm-up by Pat Emery's Basic Training.
Registration is $25 (adults); $15 (kids 10 and under) and, if you cannot be there in person for the race, you can support the event by signing up as a "virtual runner." Parking is available at the Lyndwood Shopping Center.
To register, go to http://www.active.com/running/elkridge-md/rocky-on-the-run-5k-run-walk-2013. Please note you cannot register on the date of the event.

There is no charge to take part in this program, which is sponsored by the Howard County Office on Aging. Come ready to engage in lively discussion or just listen and learn as the group focuses on current news and events. To register, contact Carmen Faye at 410-313-0380.

This fundraising event packs a great time into those few hours and features an all-you-can-eat buffet, beer and wine, dancing, raffles, door prizes and the ever-popular silent auction.
Tickets are only available through March 3 and cost $55 each; however, you can save $50 on a table of ten when purchased in full by Feb. 28. Tickets will not be sold at the door, and you must be 21 years old to attend. Contact Renee Wilkins at email@example.com or by phone at 410-747-6192.
