The local nonprofit MakingChange is holding the third annual Y-Fi Challenge Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kittleman Room at Howard Community College in Columbia.
The Y-Fi Challenge is a financial planning event for students ages 12-18 and their parents, where participants will face real life situations in a simulation atmosphere. Students will have to plan, set goals and make decisions in a manner similar to those who are choosing a careers and trying to keep budgets.
Through the simulation, students will visit stations manned by representatives of local business to discuss financial needs like transportation, insurance, banking, housing, utilities and clothing.
