The 17-year-old Wilde Lake High School junior accused of raping a 14-year-old freshman inside the school's first-floor choir room was indicted by a Howard County Grand Jury Wednesday, according to State's attorney spokesman Wayne Kirwan.

DeShawn Rasheed Jones, of the of the 6000 block of Laurel Wreath Way in Columbia, was indicted on second- degree rape, assault and sodomy charges two days after his attorney released a statement saying he was innocent.

"The public must remember that there are two sides to every story and there will be evidence that will shed light on Mr. Jones’ innocence," Adam Frank, Jones' Towson-based attorney, said in a statement on Monday.  "He and his family would ask that you please refrain from any judgment until all of the facts are brought out during trial."

According to the statement of probable cause, on Feb. 4., Jones texted the freshman asking her to skip class with him.

While wandering through the dance hall, Jones pulled the victim into an empty choir room and the two began kissing, charging documents state.

Jones then blocked the door and, despite the victim's protests, forcibly had sex with her, the documents state.

According to Howard County Public Schools spokeswoman Rebecca Amani-Dove, the incident occurred on the first floor of high school, while the police charging documents state the incident occurred on the third floor. 

According to the documents, the victim told two friends during the school day that Jones raped her, and notified a family member after coming home from school.

Police were notified of the incident that evening after the victim's mother called, acccording to the documents.

Jones, who is being charged as an adult, was arrested at the school the next day, police said. According to the documents, Jones confirmed he had sexual contact with the victim inside the first-floor choir room. 

He is being held on $500,000 bond.
