Three Columbia teenagers have been arrested and charged with armed robbery after a man was robbed at gunpoint outside of the AMC Theaters in the Columbia mall parking lot over the weekend.
Wade Thomas Jones, 18, of the 10900 block of Old Woods Way, Kenneth Calhoun Smith, 18, of the 12000 block of Little Patuxent Street, and Jerron Marquise Berry, 19, of the 5900 block of Grand Banks Road, were charged with armed robbery, robbery, first-degree assault, theft and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to police, a man was walking to his car located in the AMC Theaters parking lot at about 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, when three men approached him from behind.
The three men began talking to the victim about buying drugs, according to the charging documents, when one of the men pulled out a semi-automatic hand gun and said "Give me your money, you know what this is."
Police said the victim gave the men his wallet, which contained two social security cards, a drivers license and a $20 bill, and watched them enter a black Volkswagen and drive away. The victim then got into his car, and followed the three men to Green Mountain Circle before calling 911.
Officers stopped a car matching the description provided by the victim at Gloucester and Green Dory. The victim was able to identify Jones, Smith, and Berry as the three men who approached in the parking lot, according to the charging documents.
The armed robbery is the second to occur in the mall parking lot in less than two months.
On Sept. 6, police arrested Columbia resident Odell Kareme Copeland, 31, and Randallstown man Pierre Antwan Booth, 28, after a police surveillance team watched the two men rob a man walking to his car at gunpoint.
According to police, Booth pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the man's stomach and head before robbing him of cash, cigarettes, his cell phone and his car keys.
The two men were indicted later that month on armed robbery, assault, and felony use of a handgun charges.
Copeland and Booth are scheduled to go to trial on Feb. 27, 2013.
