Ellicott City man dies in Route 32 crash in Clarksville

An Ellicott City man involved in a car accident on Route 32 in Clarksville on Tuesday morning has been pronounced dead a few hours after being transported to Howard County General Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Michael Paul Dumonceau, 68, of Ellicott City, was killed after a flatbed truck traveling southbound on Route 32 near Linden Church Road hit its brakes and slid into northbound traffic, striking Dumonceau's 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn, investigators believe the rainy conditions were likely a factor, but are still investigating if there were other factors as well.

The driver of the flatbed, Robert Knott, 30, of Walkersville in Frederick County, was not injured, police said.

Police have not released if either Dumonceau or Knott were wearing seat belts.

Police said charges against Knott have not yet been filed, but that the investigation is ongoing.

Route 32 reopened around 2 p.m. after being closed for approximately six hours, police said.
