Howard County outdoor track season recap

The 2014 Howard County outdoor track and field season saw a number of exciting performances on the county, regional and state levels, with many impressive regular-season feats sprinkled in as well.

After winning an indoor team title a few months before, the Long Reach boys squad defended its outdoor state championship at Morgan State University. Sprinter Tosin Oyewole and hurdler Robert Carter combined for 60 of the team’s 68 points.

On the girls side, Atholton got big performances from Jen Bleakney (first place in 800, 1,600, and anchor for winning 4x800 team) and Briana Taborn (state champion discus, shot put). The Raiders finished fourth in the team standings at states.

The Howard girls team won the county and regional meets with help from Taylor Scaife and Sydney Biniak.

Individually, sprinter Jamila Brown of Wilde Lake was a force to be reckoned with all season long, River Hill’s Chris Heydrick was successful in his 800, 1,600 and relay pursuits, Reservoir’s Bryan Sosoo won a title in the triple jump, and the Wilde Lake boys team kept things interesting against the Lightning all season long.
