The Howard County School Health Council is holding a general meeting Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Ascend One Building in Columbia.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will include presentation of the Howard County Public School System’s comprehensive plan for physical activity, which includes an overview of physical education, the Fitnessgram evaluation program and physical activity throughout the day. There will also be an update given on the new school-based wellness center that opened last month at Bollman Bridge Elementary School in Jessup.
The HCSHC is a state-mandated advisory council made up of representatives from the school system, the Howard County Health Department, the PTA Council of Howard County and other community groups. The group reports to the school superintendent and the county health officer, and meets every other month to review various health, safety and wellness programs, make recommendations and provide input.
