Two Howard spas shut down; employee charged with prostitution

Howard County police have shut down two spas and arrested an employee at one of those spas for alleged prostitution.

Police said Wednesday that detectives have closed the DS Spa in the 9100 block of Rumsey Road in Columbia and Ten Oaks Spa in the 3800 block of Ten Oaks Road in Glenelg for failure to have licenses.

DS Spa employee Sun Heo, 54, of Flushing, N.Y., was charged with prostitution after an investigation revealed she had performed a sex act for money inside the spa, according to police.

Police found no evidence of human trafficking at DS Spa.

Police said they investigated Ten Oaks Spa after receiving information about possible suspicious activity and found employees were not licensed.

Both cases are part of an ongoing effort to address community concerns about prostitution and human trafficking, police said. Detectives monitor local spas and routinely conduct undercover operations to identify and arrest people who attempt to solicit prostitution.
