The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia does not limit its singing activity to church services. It also sponsors folk and rock performances through its monthly One World Coffeehouse.

Two bands, ILYAIMY and the Weathered Road, are playing at the next One World Coffeehouse on Saturday, July 19, at 7 p.m., at the Owen Brown Interfaith Center.

"Music is really important to our congregation and is a substantial part of services. The Coffeehouse series adds to that and provides an outlet for the arts and for the community," said Jay Paul, a member of the One World Coffeehouse committee who handles booking and sound engineering for the concert series.

This Ellicott City resident definitely has an ear for sound, because he professionally runs an audio-visual engineering company.

The series itself, which has been around since the late 1990s, presents an assortment of folk, rock and other types of music for an audience whose size typically ranges from 40 to 100.

Concessions are available at the concerts, which have a casual coffeehouse atmosphere.

Another community-oriented aspect of this music series is that a portion of the ticket proceeds goes to the church's charitable outreach program.

Of the two groups performing at the upcoming concert, one has a name that takes a moment to explain. ILYAIMY stands for "I Love You and I Miss You." This Baltimore-based acoustic rock group is composed of Rob Hinkal on acoustic guitar and vocals; Heather Lloyd on percussion, guitar and vocals; Kristen Jones on cello; and multi-instrumentalists Sharif Kellog and Rowan Corbett.

The Weathered Road is a Pittsburgh-based trio led by guitarist and vocalist Christopher Bell. It plays folk rock music that includes its share of so-called Americana.

The next concert in the One World Coffeehouse series is Saturday, July 19, at 7 p.m., in the Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way in Columbia. Tickets are $15, $7 for children under 12, at the door; $12 and $6, respectively, if purchased in advance at the church website. Call 410-381-0097 or go to http://www.uucolumbia.net/concerts.
