Man found in Ellicott City bedroom closet charged with burglary [Crime Log]

Ellicott City

Upper Mill Court, 3500 block, 3:23 a.m. Oct. 17. Victim heard rear sliding door shatter and someone enter home. Victim locked herself in laundry room in basement. Police discovered door had been broken with rock. Man hiding in upstairs bedroom closet. Nikolaus Herstein, 22, of 9100 block of Helaine Hamlet Way, in Columbia, was charged with fourth-degree burglary, two counts of malicious destruction of property and trespassing.

Elkridge/Jessup

Old Washington Road, 6100 block, between Oct. 7 and Oct. 17. Entry gained to former Norbel School building via door to the right of main entrance. Computers and hard drives removed. Suspect spent significant time in school.

Fox Glen Court, between 2 p.m. Oct. 10 and 12:30 a.m. Oct. 14. Entry gained to residence by using ground-level window. Purse, cash and jewelry stolen.

Savage/North Laurel

Barrel House Road, 9600 block, 7:02 p.m. Oct. 21. Victim approached by four men after making food delivery for Wings and Things. One man brandished knife and grabbed victim's iPhone from hand. Men fled.

Mayflower Court, 9400 block, between 9 a.m. and 4:08 p.m. Oct. 16. Entry gained to residence. Laptops, clothing and electronic gaming system. Victim advised that she left front patio door open.

Washington Boulevard, 9000 block, 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16. Entry gained to 2 Go Convenience Store by prying open front door. One man went to front register, stole cigarettes and check cash registers. Two others went into office, stole cigarettes and attempted, unsuccessfully, to remove safe. Three men fled through side door.
