The owner of two Columbia spas has been indicted on human trafficking and prostitution charges in connection with an alleged prostitution ring he ran out of the businesses, according to Howard County police.

Roberto F. Carrasco, 56, of the 200 block of East 23rd Street in Baltimore, was indicted by a Howard County grand jury last week on six human trafficking counts and two prostitution counts in connection with the operation of Touch Spa and Bliss Spa in Columbia.

Police said the investigation began in 2013, but Carrasco was not charged until July 7 of this year.

Police said they were unable to file charges because they could not officially identify Carrasco, who police said used multiple driver's licenses, two Social Security numbers and multiple addresses.

Police said a break came last month when they were able to confirm his home address.

Carrasco is scheduled to be arraigned in Circuit Court on Sept. 12.

Police said the investigation began after customers told them prostitution was taking place.
