Late run lifts River Hill girls basketball into Class 3A East regional championship

Hawks close game on 9-2 run to earn 39-31 victory over Reservoir; Howard downs Decatur, while Oakland Mills falls to Calvert in 2A South

Gilmore finished with a game-high 15 points, Hoesman had 14 and Kinsey added 12 more.

Howard returns to the court Friday for the regional finals.

Senior Traonna Thomas and the Scorpions came out on fire on the road.

Thomas scored 20 of her game-high 22 points in the first half – including five 3-point baskets.

In the second half, however, the two-time defending 2A state champion Cavaliers doubled down on Thomas to pull away.

OM (14-11): Thomas 22, Awkward 8, Diggs 3, Thompson 3.

C (22-2): Thomas 18, Smith 11, Weems 9, Gross 6, Butler 6, Graves 3.

Half: 26-25 OM.
