Led by the Long Reach duo of Brian Green and Avery Allmond, the East team pulled out a 106-102 victory in the annual Howard County senior boys basketball all-star game over the weekend at Howard Community College.
Green, a first-team all-county selection this past season for the Lightning, was named the MVP after he scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists. Allmond matched Green with a team-high 19 points and Atholton’s Ethan Shapiro added 17 for an East team that prevailed in a game that was back-and-forth the entire way.
Reservoir’s Josh Williams (game-high 20 points), Glenelg Country’s Kevin Boyd (18 points) and Glenelg’s Colin Randle (14 points) led the West team in the loss.
Last winter was the first go-around for the all-star game, which this year featured at least one player from 11 of the county’s 14 public or private high schools. The team’s were divided into East and West squads and players shuffled in and out throughout the two 20-minute halves.
At halftime, selected individuals from each team participated in a dunk contest and Reservoir’s Brandon Franklin was crowned champion based on a vote by the audience.
