The Glenelg volleyball team won the annual Linganore Invitational last Saturday, defeating Tuscarora in straight sets in the championship match.
The Gladiators finished as a runner-up at the same tournament a year ago, falling to Century.
Marriotts Ridge also represented Howard County, losing to Tuscarora in the semifinals.
Last year, the Mustangs lost to Glenelg at the Linganore Invitational but avenged the defeat in the regional semifinals.
Glenelg setter Camryn Long and outside hitter Sarah Girard were named to the all-tournament team.
Marriotts Ridge libero Julie Dixon also earned all-tournament honors.
The Howard Community College cross country team traveled to Lehigh University Sept. 28 to compete in the Paul Short Invitational. The invitational is one of the largest races in the Mid-Atlantic region with more than 120 colleges and universities participating.
The men placed 14th out of 36 colleges, while the women were 31st in the White division.
Filagot Dinku placed sixth in the 8k race, finishing with a time of 26:37. He was followed by Andrew Parlette (52. 27:54), Alex Warfield (131. 29:22), Juan Cortez (132. 29:25), Edgar Propst (185. 30:19), Rafi Fernandez (190. 30:25), Ed Richardson (211. 30:56) and John Leierzapf (240. 31:53).
For the women, Anna Sandacz was the team's top finisher in 26:46 for the 6k course. Behind her were Naomi Mills (178. 30:09), Rachael Lape (190. 31:25), Destiny Jones (195. 32:13) and Shannon Stubs (199. 32:23).
