The Hammond boys lacrosse team took a trip up I-95 to Harford County and returned home with a 13-5 victory over host Edgewood on Monday, snapping a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Junior attackman Shane Strott led the Golden Bears (1-8) with five goals and three assists. Elliott Wascavage added four goals and three assists, raising his season totals to seven goals and five assists.
“We controlled the game most of the way thanks to Colin Mason winning seventy percent of his face-offs,” Hammond coach Christopher Reagle said. “The guys really needed this win and once the shots started falling, their confidence really took off.”
The Golden Bears' 6-3 halftime lead increased to 10-3 entering the fourth quarter, and goalie Ben Ballard stopped 12 shots to ensure the victory.
“Elliott Wascavage and Shane Strott were dominant on attack and really had breakout nights,” Reagle said. “Colin Mason and John Suntum controlled the transition game and Ben Ballard was on control all night in the cage. These guys have worked so hard all year, its great to see them put it all together.”
