Atholton boys lacrosse advance to 3A-2A South semifinals

Atholton was off to a blistering start against host Marriotts Ridge in Friday evening’s Class 3A-2A South region quarterfinals game before lightning in the area halted play on two separate occasions.

The Raiders were leading, 6-1, with 6:19 remaining in the first half when officials stopped play for 30 minutes and fans were cleared from the bleachers. Play resumed for 14 seconds before another lightning strike occurred and stopped play for good.

On Saturday morning, Atholton finished the game and downed the Mustangs, 12-5.

Glen Kasoff led the way for the Raiders with three goals and three assists. Kyle Courtney also had a hat trick, while Ryan McHugh and Sam Smith contributed two goals each.

Austin Dorsey had three goals and Kenyon Hendershot added a pair for Marriotts Ridge. Donald Cosgrove had two assists.

The Raiders will face the winner of Glenelg-River Hill in the semifinals

Class 3A-2A South quarterfinals

Atholton 12, Marriotts Ridge 5

Goals: A – Kasoff 3, Courtney 3, Smith 2, R. McHugh 2, Gryski, Foster;  MR – Dorsey 3, Hendershot 2.

Assists: A – Kasoff 3, Foster 2, Courtney, R. McHugh; MR – Colegrove 2, Clipp, Campbell.

Class 4A-3A South

Howard 13, Mervo 0

The Lions were leading 13-0 with 7 minutes left in the second quarter before Mervo forfeit the contest. Cody Ford had five goals and Scott Bruner contributed three goals and three assists to the effort.

No. 4 Howard will host No. 8 Kenwood on Monday in the regional semifinals. The outcome of Poly-Kenwood was not reported at the time of this posting.

Goals: Ho – Ford 5, Bruner 3, Travisano 2, Striebich, Gerus, Zulick.

Assists: Ho – Bruner 3, Striebich 2, Travisano 2, Keohane, Zulick, Dunnigan.

Class 3A-2A South

Centennial 20, Northeast (AA) 8

The Eagles had little problem with the visitors from Anne Arundel County. Mikey Moore had a career-high five goals and Stephen Latona added four goals and four assists.

Centennial scored eight goals in the third quarter to blow open game.

Mt. Hebron 13, Reservoir 8

The Vikings got off to a fast start in their win over the Gators. Jake Stevens led the way with five goals and an assist. Adam Huber had two goals and four assists, while Nick Lucchessi finished with two goals and two assists.

Reservoir beat Hammond yesterday to advance (box score below). Cole Evans had four goals and an assist for the Gators.

River Hill at Glenelg

The Gladiators were ahead, 10-0, with 5:48 left in the 3rd quarter before inclement weather postponed the contest, which will be completed tomorrow at noon. 

Class 2A-1A South

North Carroll 18, Oakland Mills 4

The Scorpions ended their season with a 5-11 mark after falling in the regional quarterfinals.

John Caldwell had a goal and an assist, while Jack Farrall, Jimmy Riss and Aiden Cunningham each scored a goal. Brandon Andrews made nine saves. 

Goals: OM – Caldwell, Farrall, Riss, Cunningham; NC – Fiedler 5, Gonzalez 5, Kiler 3, Hyatt 2, Heinle, Mitzel, Sherman.
