30-second timeout with Paul Burmester, Atholton baseball catcher

Atholton senior catcher Paul Burmester, a 2012 all-county selection, is one of the most respected players in Howard County, to both opposing pitchers and would-be base-stealers.

Through 15 games, Burmester is batting .348 with 14 RBIs, including six extra base hits. At catcher, he has caught 11 baserunners attempting to steal, including three on two occasions. Opponents seem to be getting the message: only one baserunner has attempted to steal in the past three games.

With five games remaining, Atholton is 10-2 in league play, just half a game behind Oakland Mills (11-2) in the chase for the county championship.

Earlier this month, Burmester took a moment to talk about life on and off the field.
